Any supplements to maintain dog coat to be soft and shiny?

by admin on October 31, 2009

I have a 4 month French Bulldog. I feed him Natural Balance duck+potato and am now switching to Wellness Venison due to some food allergies.

Are there any oral or topical supplements I can give my puppy to maintain his soft and shiny coat?

Thanks!
My puppy was itching his paws quite a bit and I do not see any signs of Fleas. The pet food store recommended Wellness Venison + Rice food. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good allergy food or any other ideas?

The food allergies you speak of are almost certainly due to the unnatural "commercial" diet you are feeding it. Nonetheless, if you are determined to go down this route, supplements such as cod liver oil are good for the coat.

French Bulldogs are so cute!!! I’m sure you’re having fun with him.
My recommendation would be to see how you can put some vitamin e into his diet. Talk to your vet and see if you can give your dog a vitamin e supplement. Vitamin e is harmless to humans, and it helps keep skin and hair soft. So just talk to your vet and see what type of vitamin e supplement would be safe for your dog.
Good luck with your puppy!!!

Have heard that if you mix a raw egg in the dog food it will help give him a shinny coat. Don’t know if it is true. Ask your vet and see what he/she thinks.

The vet recommended Aveno body wash for our Rotti. It leaves him smelling sweet, with a very shiny coat, and no itchies.

Yes. My Sheltie pup’s fur was dry so I started giving her 1 Brewer’s Yeast tablet plus a teaspoon of Vitacoat Plus. They sell this at Foster and Smith (it’s a catalog which is also on-line I believe). I also use Science Diet Little Bites which is great for little breeds like French Bulldogs. Is your little puppy a handful? Every French Bulldog I’ve seen is a handful but they are really cute. They are so expensive though! Good luck with him. Are French Bulldogs prone to allergies? Are you sure it was the food he’s allergic to? Have you tried baby Benedryl (your vet can tell you proper dose)? Or did Wellness Venison make a difference? I have another Sheltie puppie who has very pink skin and the Benedryl helps but he still has pink skin but just doesn’t itch as much.
