The best joint supplement is a mixture of Chrondroitin, Glucosamine (repair and lubricate joints) and MSM (natural anti-inflammatory). The human form and the pet form are the same. Walgreen's usually runs an ad at least once a month for Buy 1 Get 1 Free for the human form. The MSM will be just as effective anti-inflammatory as the aspirin without the harmful side effects of stomach ulcers and bleeding problems (thin blood). If you continue to give the aspirin be sure and crush it up and mix it in with food to help prevent stomach ulcers.
References :
Three supplements that are supposed to help with joint pain are Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM. The cheapest place I have found them is WalMart in the vitamin section. There is no reason to spend more money for the dog versions of the same things. The only difference is the dog versions are disguised as chewable treats.
References :
We order Snovi-MSM (the chewable tablets) from KV Vet Supply. It is a Glucosamine supplement with an anti-inflammitory.
References :
My 10 year old lab gets a good deal of relief from a product called Glucosamine.

Here is what I found online:

Glucosamine Tablets contains Glucosamine Sulphate, a nutritional supplement which supports cartilage metabolism. Glucosamine sulphate is the basic building block of all cartilage, and plays an important role in building and maintaining joint fluid, cartilage and other connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments which are vital for joint health. Supplementation with Glucosamine results in significant reductions in joint pain, stiffness, tenderness, and swelling, as well as increased joint performance in dogs suffering from osteo-arthritis or degenerative joint disease.

I get it online from a website called

http://www.vetshoponline.com

but I am pretty sure you can get it from your local vet as well if you don't like shopping online.

Vetshoponline.com also has a product called Joint Guard which as stuff other than glucosamine but I have never tried it and its ALOT more expensive.
References :
http://www.vetshoponline.com/Glucosamine-Tablets-500mg-P275C128.aspx

definitely glucosimine!!!!! it helps with bones and joints. and its great to take the pain away and helps make joints stronger. its a great supplement for those large breed dogs prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. you can get it a a health store. you can use the human kind. its the same thing as those "Joint Supplements For Dogs" at petsmart. those will be very exspensive--about 20 dollars, where as you can get the same thing at a health store for 8 dollars. just read the label and look at the ingredients. talk to your vet too!
References :
I'm in the same boat! My german shepherd has terrible bones and joints, and, although wasn't diagnosied with it, has a bit of hip dysplasia ):

Ask your vet about giving your dog glucosamine supplements. You can also start him on a mild pain killer if your vet says it's ok.
